Are protein drinks healthy? Well, the simple answer is yes. Of course it is healthy to drink something that has nutrition and not a lot of things that are bad for you in it. But it is important to answer a question like this one a bit more thoroughly.
First of all, why are you asking? Are you planning to start drinking protein drinks regularly? If so, that can be a good thing! Why are you planning to drink them? That is an important question.
Are you building up your body? Are you working out regularly? Are you trying to improve your body fat index? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then protein drinks will indeed help you achieve your goals.
Protein is a necessary component of a healthy diet and a key ingredient to building lean muscle content in the body. So yes, protein drinks (also known as protein shakes) are good, to this end.
However, here is another important thing to keep in mind: Protein drinks are not necessarily intended as a meal replacement. There are diet shakes and other meal replacement drinks that may have protein content comparable to what you might find in a protein drink. And those are fine for weight loss and getting in shape.
But again, you must remember that protein shakes do not, by themselves, cause weight loss. And replacing meals with a protein shake which is not intended as a meal replacement could actually cause your body to gain weight!
Your body requires certain nutrition and calories throughout the day (your nutrition specialist or doctor can help you determine what is right for you, in this regard). If you deprive your body, it will store fat and worse, it will consume muscle when it runs out of fat, if you do not provide your body with proper nutrition.
So, in closing, yes protein shakes are good for you if they are used appropriately. And yes, it is ok to buy and consume drinks that are intended for meal replacement (if they contain the proper nutrition your body requires for a meal). Just make sure to ask the retailer how the particular drink is intended to be consumed. And make sure that you balance diet, exercise, vitamins and real nutrition from eating healthy foods.
