Health Benefits Of Blackstrap Molasses

People who are health conscious know that it is healthier and more beneficial to use natural sweeteners. Regular sugar has no nutritional value in it. There are healthy sweeteners on the market, such as Blackstrap Molasses. Blackstrap molasses has a lot of nutritional value in it. One teaspoon contains 16 calories, which is about the same as regular sugar. It can sweeten food and drinks just like refined sugar or artificial sweeteners, only it is a healthy option. The health benefits of blackstrap molasses are many.

A great Sweetener

Blackstrap molasses can be added to just about anything that you would normally add sugar to. It can be added to smoothies, tea, milk, cereal, coffee and desserts. There are a variety of uses for black strap molasses in the kitchen. Finding ways to add it into your diet is no problem at all. Along with adding it to certain food and drinks, it can also be used as a baste for turkey or chicken, and it can give a unique and distinctive taste to cakes and cookies.

By adding two teaspoons of blackstrap molasses to the food and drink you consume, you’ll be getting 10% or more of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of iron, calcium, manganese, magnesium, copper, potassium and several other essential nutrients and minerals. Blackstrap molasses is also a great source of selenium and Vitamin B6.

One of the nutrients needed to metabolize sugar is chromium. Since regular sugar contains no chromium, in order for it to get metabolized properly, the chromium is stolen from the body. This can cause weight gain, and can lead to diabetes. If you add just one teaspoon of blackstrap molasses, you’ll be getting 100% of the RDA of chromium.

Potassium is necessary for muscle function and for a healthy nervous system. It also helps maintain the pH balance and electrolyte balance in the body. Potassium is often said to help alleviate muscle soreness after an intense workout. Two teaspoons of blackstrap molasses provides the body with almost 10% of the RDA of potassium.

When it comes to not getting enough of a certain nutrient, perhaps the two most prominent are calcium and iron. Getting enough iron in your diet is necessary for a healthy metabolism, and energy production. Blackstrap molasses contains 13% of the RDA of iron in two teaspoons. Women who are lactating are more likely to have an iron deficiency and could benefit from using blackstrap molasses. Calcium is essential to strong bones and healthy teeth. You can get almost 12% of the recommended calcium intake from two teaspoons of blackstrap molasses.

Molasses Health Benefits

Among the many health benefits of blackstrap molasses is it’s ability to help with anxiety, anemia, pain from arthritis, constipation, heart palpitations, and it’s also been claimed to help restore gray hair back to the color it used to be. Along with helping to alleviate these conditions, blackstrap molasses can also be used for improving ulcers, psoriasis, varicose veins, dermatitis, rheumatism, and even benign tumors. If you suffer from intestinal problems, blackstrap molasses can aid in the discomfort related to that problem also.

By incorporating Blackstrap Molasses into your daily diet, you can improve conditions on the inside of your body, as well as conditions on the outside of your body. The uses and health benefits of blackstrap molasses are vast, and can be a great addition to anyone’s diet.

I was wondering, there are some claims about blackstrap molasses reversing grey hair and helping people who have iron deficiency? Anyone out there who had experience with reversing grey hair? My hair started to grey because of high tensions and stress. Nothing kills more people than stress believe me. Not even my worst enemy I would wish him or her to have stress in the amount I am having at the moment. To me it’s for sure, better bald than grey ;)
